Difference between Electron and Hole:


Doping silicon (Si, 14) and germanium (Ge, 32) with an element with 5 outer electrons, such as phosphorus (P, 15), frees the fifth electron so that the semi-conductor has an electron excess.

Doping with an element, such as boron (B, 5), produces a crystal lattice with spaces, known as hole, which free electron readily fill.
